Success! First inspection passed

Tuesday, April 5: A senior inspector from the city of Lake Forest came out this morning and checked out the subfloor structure. He signed off on it, telling me I had done a "good job."  He also asked me how I put those joists in by myself.  "Two ladders, and trial-and-error," I responded.

The gentleman was quite helpful, outlining exactly what he wants to see done before he comes out the next time:

  • All the finished framing, including the interior walls.
  • The new window installed, along with flashing and stucco lathe but not the stucco until he sees the lathe.
  • All the rough wiring, including that for a carbon-monoxide/smoke dectector to comply with a new California law.
He signed off on my plan to leave extra slack in the wiring for the "movable chandelier fixture," and he answered some of my questions about how often to staple the romex cable.
